One Piece 1188 Comment and Future Prediction

The ending of One Piece Chapter 1188 has left many fans completely stunned. Seeing Imu stab Luffy with a sword is probably one of the most shocking moments in the Final Saga so far. At first glance, it really looks as though Luffy has suffered a fatal wound. However, if we look at how Eiichiro Oda has developed the story over the past 28 years, the chances of Luffy actually dying here are extremely small.

One of the biggest clues is what Imu says after the attack: "Joy Boy... was not that weak." This line is far more interesting than the stabbing itself. Imu doesn't seem to be celebrating victory. Instead, it sounds like Imu is comparing Luffy with the original Joy Boy from 800 years ago. In other words, Imu seems disappointed because Luffy has not yet reached the true level of Joy Boy's power.

This could mean that the Luffy we are seeing today—even with Gear 5—is still not at his full potential. Throughout the series, Oda has always shown Luffy growing stronger only after facing overwhelming defeat. Crocodile defeated him several times. Lucci pushed him to his limits. Kaido knocked him down repeatedly before Luffy awakened Gear 5. Every major loss became the turning point that allowed Luffy to surpass his previous limits. Because of that, this battle against Imu may be following the same pattern.

There are several possible ways Luffy could survive. The most obvious explanation is the mysterious power of Gear 5 itself. Since awakening the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, Luffy has displayed abilities that go far beyond normal Devil Fruit powers. He has restarted his own heartbeat, recovered from injuries that should have ended the fight, and even manipulated his body in impossible ways. A stab wound that would kill an ordinary person may not necessarily be enough to stop him.

Another possibility lies in the famous Drums of Liberation. Oda has never fully explained why Luffy's heartbeat changes after awakening Gear 5. It may be more than just a transformation. The heartbeat could be connected to Nika's true power and perhaps even possess healing or regenerative abilities that have not yet been revealed.

There is also the possibility that someone will step in before Imu can finish Luffy. This is the Final Saga, and many powerful characters are still active, including Dragon, Shanks, the Revolutionary Army, the Straw Hat crew, and the Giant Warriors. Oda often creates dramatic moments where allies arrive just in time to save the protagonist before the final comeback begins.

Personally, I think the most exciting theory is that this defeat will trigger another evolution in Luffy's power. Many fans believe Gear 5 is the final transformation, but Imu's words suggest otherwise. If the original Joy Boy was much stronger, then perhaps Luffy has only unlocked part of Nika's true abilities. This battle could become the catalyst for him to finally inherit Joy Boy's complete power and will.

What makes Imu even more terrifying than Kaido is not just physical strength. Kaido was known as the strongest creature because of his overwhelming power and durability. Imu, on the other hand, appears to possess something much more dangerous—ancient knowledge, mysterious supernatural abilities, immense Haki, and possibly even immortality. Imu has likely lived since the Void Century and knows secrets that no one else does. That combination makes Imu an opponent unlike anything Luffy has ever faced.

My prediction is that Chapter 1188 represents Luffy's lowest point before his greatest comeback. He has been critically injured, and everyone may believe he has lost. But just when all hope seems gone, the Drums of Liberation could begin beating once again. Luffy may awaken an even greater version of his Nika powers, finally becoming the Joy Boy that Imu remembers from 800 years ago. If that happens, the real final battle between Luffy and Imu will only be just beginning.

Whether this theory proves to be correct or not, one thing is certain: Oda has once again ended a chapter in a way that has the entire One Piece community eagerly waiting for the next release.
